Help! I have 2 teeth pulled, I'm wondering if I get food surrounded by the wounds?

I had 2 bicuspids pulled, one on respectively side. They were pulled almost 4 days ago...last couple days I notice a skin-colored substance.I'm not sure if it's food or skin. It could be newly forming skin or cheese and crackers (gross I know). I don't want to nick it off if its skin, but however I don't want to leave it if it's food...What should I do?Help!
