I don't think the two are related exactly. I've never hear of it in 21 years anyway. If I have to take a guess I would say-so you are under greatly of stress right now and you are grinding/clenching your teeth at hours of darkness. This will make the muscles within your face tight and sore cause headaches. Also, if you enjoy a lot of rigidity in your collar, that will make you clench too. I would suggest getting a hours of darkness guard made for you by the dentist. They fit better than the ones in the stores. Take anti inflammatory medication for several days, not on an clean stomach of course. Use particularly warm towels on your jowl and leave them nearby till the towel is cool. Use less caffeine several hours until that time bed. I sleep with a memory-form type pillow and it really help my neck stress and strain. The hours of darkness guard will also help your periodontal problems. When you grind/clench it moves your teeth within the bone and causes the bone to dent and slowly breakdown over time. I would bet your pocket depths will decrease much more over time too.
